A disappointed Fernando Alonso feels McLaren simply didnt have the pace to challenge for points at the Chinese GP.Heading into qualifying the Woking squad were eyeing spots in Q3, but had to settle for 11th and 12th on the grid after a red flag forced them to abort their final qualifying runs.Despite chaos ahead in the race, McLaren couldnt hold onto any positions they gained at the start, finishing 12th and 13th at the chequered flag. We didnt have the pace today to be in the points. That is a shame. We need to improve for the next round, Alonso told Sky Sports F1.The Safety Car didnt help, but even after the Safety Car we were not quick enough in the race and we need to go into the details of what we can improve. Martin Brundle chats to Fernando Alonso ahead of the Chinese GP The result means McLaren have still only scored one point in 2016, and that was picked up by reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne in Bahrain where he deputised for Alonso. However, the Spaniard is still taking positives away from Shanghai. We ran with a lot of people today so we probably have a good reference now to where the strongest points of our car are and where the weaknesses are that we need to improve, Alonso added. It is a useful race and my first long run to be honest, in winter testing we never did 50 laps and in Australia I had the accident and in Bahrain I didnt participate. Jenson Button agreed with Fernando Alonso that McLarens pace wasnt quick enough In the sister car, Button is hoping the post-race analysis will show they went the wrong way on strategy, otherwise he agrees with Alonso that their pace isnt good enough. We tried to do a two-stop, but it didnt look like it was ever going to work, maybe our pace just isnt good enough or maybe it was the wrong choice of tyre, we will have to look at that, Button told Sky Sports F1.Hopefully we have made the wrong strategy call putting on the medium because if we havent then we arent quick enough to be in the points at the moment because nothing else went wrong. So I am hoping that that was the wrong choice. Chinese GP report Nico Rosberg wins, Lewis Hamilton down in seventh The Shanghai International Circuit boasts the longest straight on the F1 calendar and Sky Sports F1 analyst Paul di Resta feels that on a less power dependent track points will come for McLaren. They are getting closer, they will definitely come when we get to a smaller track. I guess the big test to come for them is Barcelona, it is not so reliant on the Honda power plant, but more the downforce of the car, he said. They are getting there, getting them into Q3 and out of trouble is key.Dont miss the F1 Report on Wednesday at 8:30pm on Sky Sports F1 for full analysis of an action-packed Chinese Grand Prix at the Shanghai International Circuit. Today, we look back at Boston Strong - a citys recovery from tragedy.FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Bryce Pettys bruised chest is feeling better, and the chocolate chip cookies he received from an apologetic teammate should help with the healing process. The New York Jets quarterback was injured last Saturday night when he was sandwiched by Miamis Cameron Wake and Ndamukong Suh while completing a 28-yard pass to Robby Anderson on the first play of the fourth quarter in New Yorks 34-13 loss.X-rays at the stadium were negative, as was a CT scan Monday.Shoot, I thought something was messed up in there, Petty said Tuesday. Luckily, everything was good.Petty and coach Todd Bowles called it a miscommunication, and it appeared center Wesley Johnson might have made a mistake with the snap count -- since he was the only one on the Jets offensive line who moved. That created clear lanes for both Wake and Suh to crunch the quarterback .It wont happen again, a smiling Petty said. I had a batch of cookies on my hood from Wes, so that was a really nice gesture. He still owes me dinner, though. When asked if the cookies were homemade, Petty said he believed they were. So, it was a real apology, yeah, he said, smiling. It was nice.Petty said he practiced fully Tuesday and couldnt foresee anything keeping him from playing Saturday at New England.Bowles said the team will monitor him throughout the week, and Petty will start if he continues to show improvement.I just couldnt imagine this season ending that way, Petty said. So, I was really happy to see that everything was negative, everything was good. It was a good hit -- hits, plural. Ill probably put that up in my man cave at some point. So, if I can take shots from those two dudes right there, I think Ill be all right. After watching film of the play, though, Petty was surprised he wasnt injured worse.I mean, shoot, I had two off probably the strongest dudes Ive ever been around hit me at the same time, Petty said.dddddddddddd But thats football. I try not to watch it too much.Bowles was also initially concerned that the injury was worse.Any time you dont go back in the game, you have a serious injury, he said. But not to have any positive damage done, thats a good thing. This is a matter of soreness and how much your pain tolerance is and how much you can or cant do.Petty said he feels a lot better after the hit kind of knocked the breath out of me. He has thrown deep passes in the past few days and been able to do so without any pain. Petty added that his chest doesnt hurt at all when he touches it.So, a lot of progress, he said.Petty said Jets head athletic trainer John Mellody is working on some protective padding for him to wear in the game.I was watching `A Knights Tale the other night and they have, I dont know what the knights wore when they were jousting, but I think I might do that, Petty said, trying to keep a straight face. Nah, I think we have some Kevlar or something.Petty is 75 of 130 for 809 yards with three touchdowns and six interceptions this season, which includes his first three NFL starts. He has already been sacked 11 times and is going through the growing pains -- literally -- of a young quarterback trying to learn in the NFL. Reading defenses, better ball security and thinking faster on his feet are all on the docket, as is trying to avoid taking hard hits.If anything, it gives me more of an appreciation to get the ball out fast, Petty said, and thats something Ive got to do.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '
