LOS ANGELES, Calif. - After Lakers rookie Julius Randle left his NBA debut strapped to a wheeled stretcher with a broken right leg, every player at Staples Center gained a sober perspective on the season opener.Even ex-teammates Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard realized their shouting match was particularly inconsequential in the final minutes of the Houston Rockets blowout win.James Harden scored 32 points, Howard added 13 points and 11 rebounds before getting into an exchange with Bryant, and the Rockets spoiled Bryants return to the Lakers with a 108-90 victory over Los Angeles on Tuesday night.Bryants comeback game and the Lakers return from a 55-loss season went from bad to miserable when Randle broke his right leg in the fourth quarter. The seventh overall pick out of Kentucky collided with two Rockets under the basket and landed awkwardly, collapsing to the court in agony. After his own Lakers debut ended somberly, coach Byron Scott described the scene as heartbreaking. The last three or four minutes, obviously we werent thinking a whole lot about basketball, Scott added. We were just thinking about Julius, and hoping hes OK.Randles injury cast a pall over the night for the Lakers, who are banking on the 19-year-old power forward to become a solid player — perhaps their next star. His right leg was immobilized before his teammates lifted him onto the stretcher, obvious pain on his face, with Bryant squeezing his hand.Well help him through this, and hell come back a better basketball player, Bryant said. Thats the goal, is to try to find a silver lining in this. Hell use the time to come back and be stronger.Bryant scored 19 points in his first game back at Staples Center after missing most of the Lakers worst season in a half-century with two major injuries.A few moments before Randles injury, Howard and Bryant received matching technical fouls when Howard elbowed Bryant in the face after grabbing a rebound in the fourth quarter, setting off a lengthy stretch of shouting and finger-pointing between the former teammates.Although teammates stepped between them, Bryant appeared to yell Try me! at Howard, who wore his usual broad grin while responding.Theres no need to go into it. We won the game, Howard said. Its over with. Its about basketball. Im not even focused on it.Howard spurned Bryant and the Lakers after one season in 2013 to take roughly $30 million less as a free agent in Houston. Scott said the two superstars dont like each other, a notion that made Bryant laugh. You cant help but like him, Bryant said with a straight face. Hes a teddy bear. I really mean that. Hes a nice kid.Howard got a flagrant foul for the elbow, and Bryant got a personal foul in addition to their technicals. Both veterans were pulled from the blowout immediately afterward.Trevor Ariza and Terrence Jones scored 16 points apiece, while Harden hit three 3-pointers and 15 free throws. Ariza hit five 3-pointers for the Rockets, who took an 18-point lead in the first half and werent threatened. We looked pretty good, Harden said. It was just a matter of time for everybody to get on the court together and execute, and tonight, we did a pretty good job.Jeremy Lin scored seven points against his former teammates in his Lakers debut, struggling to score against Patrick Beverley. Lin is the Lakers starting point guard after Steve Nashs latest season-ending injury.Bryant extended his franchise record just by stepping on the court for his 19th season with the Lakers, tying Utahs John Stockton for the most seasons with one team in NBA history. That 19th season is likely to be rocky, although he relishes the chance to play for Scott, the longtime Lakers shooting guard and Inglewood, California, native who got his self-described dream job this summer.Bryant played just six games last season due to two major injuries, and the Lakers won just 27 games in their worst performance since moving to Los Angeles.Carlos Boozer added 17 points in his Lakers debut.TIP-INSRockets: Rookie Tarik Black scored two points and Kostas Papanikolaou had four in their NBA debuts. RALEIGH, N.C. -- A prosecutor said Tuesday that suspended Cleveland Browns receiver Josh Gordon will receive probation and undergo a substance-abuse assessment after pleading guilty to a drunken-driving charge in North Carolina. Acting Wake County district attorney Ned Mangum said Gordon received a 60-day suspended jail sentence and one year of unsupervised probation Tuesday. The Pro Bowler is serving an NFL imposed season-long suspension for a failed marijuana test, though that could be reduced under proposed drug policy changes. For his DWI, Gordon must also comply with any treatment recommended through the substance-abuse assessment, pay a $100 fine and court costs, and perform community service. His drivers license was also suspended. Gordons attorney, Trey Fitzhugh, entered the plea on Gordons behalf on a charge of driving while impaired from a July arrest in Raleigh. Gordon was pulled for going 50 mph in a 35 mph zone and also charged with speeding, though Mangum saiid that charge was dismissed.dddddddddddd. Gordon, who led the NFL with 1,646 yards receiving last year, has been away from the Browns during his suspension and planned to work for a car dealership. The players union voted last week to accept a league proposal for drug policy changes that include HGH testing, an increase for the threshold that triggers a positive marijuana test and a two-game suspension for a player convicted of a drunken-driving charge. Under provisions of the new policy, Gordons suspension likely would be cut to 10 games. A union spokesman said Monday that changes "are currently getting finalized" by the league and union. Gordon was due to first appear in Wake County court last month and the DWI case was continued until Nov. 18. But Mangum said the case was resolved Tuesday after Fitzhugh recently contacted his office to say Gordon wanted to plead guilty now. Fitzhugh did not immediately return a call for comment Tuesday afternoon. ' ' '
