For the first time in nearly three months, the Oakland As have been bumped from top spot in the TSN.ca MLB Power Rankings, with the Washington Nationals the new inhabitants of the penthouse suite. The Nationals have won eight straight, to gain some breathing room in the National League East, and that comes at a time when the As have slumped, losing five straight prior to Tuesdays win against the Mets. Getting pitcher Michael Pineda back from the DL helped lift the New York Yankees up, from 15 to 12, this week, but the Yankees havent exactly been on a tear, with two wins in the past eight games. Heading in the other direction, the Pittsburgh Pirates have lost seven straight, and staff ace Charlie Morton has hit the disabled list, resulting in a drop from nine to 14. The Toronto Blue Jays continue to struggle, posting a 4-12 record in August, and effectively flip spots with the Yankees, going from 12 to 15. Doing so even while the roster gets healthier is a bad sign for the Jays. An abysmal offence is catching up to the New York Mets. Since the All-Star break, the Mets have a .581 OPS, easily the worst in baseball over that span. The 29th-ranked Cincinnati Reds are at .621, so the Mets ranking slips from 18 to 22. Arsenal (LW-4) A tough week for Arsenal as they were well beaten 6-0 at the hands of Chelsea before a Mathieu Flamini 90th minute own goal cost them a win in a 2-2 draw with Swansea. 5. Swansea City (LW-14) A single point is all Swansea would get out of two fixtures and they earned it late in the second fixture. After falling 3-2 to Everton, an injury time own goal gifted the Swans a 2-2 draw with Arsenal. 15. Norwich City (LW-16) Robert Snodgrass and Alexander Tettey scored first half goals to lead Norwich to a 2-0 victory over Sunderland. 16. West Bromwich Albion (LW-15) Two first half goals condemned West Bromwich Albion to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Hull City. 17. Crystal Palace (LW-18) Crystal Palace conceded an injury time marker to Newcastle as they fell 1-0 at St. James Park on the weekend. 18. Sunderland (LW-17) A tough week for Sunderland as they failed to pick up any points in either match they played.
