LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Kentuckys first 0-2 start in 20 years has forced coach Mark Stoops to go back to basics in an effort to save the Wildcats season.Stoops plans to utilize simpler offensive and defensive schemes in Saturdays game against New Mexico State (1-1). The coachs tweaks will emphasize fundamentals to try and stop a freefall in which Southern Mississippi and Florida have outscored Kentucky 79-7 the past six-plus quarters. We fundamentally need to go back and get better, Stoops said. We cannot beat anybody until we stop beating ourselves.Kentucky led Southern Miss 35-10 late in the first half before allowing 34 unanswered points in the 44-35 season-opening loss . The Wildcats managed only a fourth-quarter touchdown to avoid being shut out in a 45-7 loss to the Gators last week.Though Kentucky is favored by 19 points in their first-ever game against the Aggies, the Wildcats cant look past the Sun Belt Conference school. Especially since New Mexico State is riding high from a 32-31 comeback win over in-state rival New Mexico. The Aggies trailed 14-3 after one quarter and 17-9 at halftime before coming back with two second-half touchdown passes by Tyler Rogers. Xavier Hall rushed for another score and Parker Davidson contributed a career-best four field goals; he has made all five attempts this season.New Mexico State hopes to add another win but coach Doug Martin acknowledges that will be a tough task against a Kentucky team badly needing a win.Well prepare well and give everything weve got Saturday, the fourth-year Aggies coach said.Stoops meanwhile will try to correct things on defense.Through two games Kentucky has allowed 1,084 yards, including 564 against the Gators. Stopping the run is a priority after opponents have combined for 548 yards on the ground. Most important for the Wildcats is forgetting two agonizing weeks and looking ahead to a chance to turn things around.Everybodys confidence is still up, said Kentucky defensive end/linebacker Denzil Ware. Weve just got to finish and come out ready to play. We cant take one play off.---Some other things to watch when Kentucky hosts New Mexico State:BELIEVING IN BARKER: After throwing for 323 yards and four TDs in the opener, Kentucky quarterback Drew Barker completed just 2 of 10 passes for 10 yards with three interceptions in last weeks rout by the Gators. It was his worst performance in three games as the Wildcats starter, but Stoops believes Barker will bounce back against the Aggies. He is a resilient guy and that comes with the territory, the coach said. He has no choice but to go out there and play.PITCHING IN: New Mexico State signal caller Tyler Rogers leads the Aggies in passing yards (411) and rushing (84). His running has come in handy with defending Sun Belt rushing champion Larry Rose III (1,651 yards, 14 TDs in 2015) sidelined by a sports hernia. Martin said earlier this week that Rose is very doubtful for the game.COMING HOME: Martin played quarterback at Kentucky under Jerry Claiborne from 1981-84 and served as a Wildcats graduate assistant from 1986-87. While guiding Kent State, Martins Golden Flashes lost 56-20 to the Wildcats in 2007.HONORING HEROES: Kentucky will recognize active, reserve and veterans of the Armed Forces along with police, firefighters and first responders before kickoff Saturday.----AP College Football: collegefootball.ap.org Balenciaga Speed Trainer Sale Australia . 1, meaning problems for the doping controls at both major international sports events next year. SAN DIEGO -- With the NL West won by the Los Angeles Dodgers, the San Francisco Giants have six more games to try to clinch a wild-card berth. The good news is, they dont have to play the San Diego Padres anymore.Rookie Manuel Margot tripled in the seventh inning and scored the go-ahead run on Wil Myers single as the Padres beat San Francisco 4-3 to drop the Giants a game behind the New York Mets in the NL wild-card race. The Mets beat Philadelphia 17-0. St. Louis began the day a half-game behind the Mets and Giants.A few minutes before this game ended, the Dodgers beat Colorado 4-3 in 10 innings to win the NL West title. The Dodgers came into Sunday seven games ahead of the Giants. The Padres split the four-game series and beat the Giants for the eighth time in 10 games since the All-Star break. San Francisco had swept the Padres three times in the seasons first two months. You know its coming, so were battling for the wild card, said manager Bruce Bochy, who managed the Giants to World Series titles in 2010, 2012 and 2014. You know thats inevitable, that was going to happen. You understand that, and sure youre always disappointed you dont win your division, but right now our focus is keep trying to win games and get there and have a shot at it.The Giants finish at home with three games against the Rockies and three against the Dodgers.Myers said the Padres didnt necessarily savor helping ruin the Giants chances at the division title. The only thing were focused on is playing good baseball, Myers said. Obviously we want to win every game. Were not going out there (with) our goal to beat the Giants. Our goal is to get better and get these younger guys experience. Why have the Padres dominated the Giants, who led the NL West by 6 1/2 games at the break?Weve just played better baseball, Myers said. I feel weve been pretty good here in the second half. I think weve done a lot of good things and I like where our teams at.Margot, called up Wednesday from Pacific Coast League champion El Paso, tripled to right center off Cory Gearrin (3-2) with one out in the seventh and scored on Myers single.Margot doubled in the first and hit an RBI single in the second, both off rookie Ty Blach,, who was making his first big league start, in place of the injured Johnny Cueto.ddddddddddddBrandon Morrow (1-0) got two outs for the victory. Brad Hand got the last five outs for his first save.San Francisco took a 3-1 lead in the third off lefty Clayton Richard. Buster Posey hit a two-run single and an RBI groundout by Kelby Tomlinson. One run was unearned due to catcher Austin Hedges throwing the ball away trying to get Trevor Brown at second base on Blachs bunt. The bunt went only a few inches in front of home plate and Blach had a hard time getting out of Hedges way.It took a moment for Hedges to get the ball and he rushed his throw. Padres manager Andy Green came out to argue, to no avail.San Diego tied it on Adam Rosales home run with two outs in the third inning off Blach and Yangervis Solartes RBI single in the fifth off George Kontos. The Padres had taken a 1-0 lead when Margot singled in Hedges in the second.Blach pitched three innings, allowing two runs and four hits, striking out three and walking three.I just didnt execute as many pitches there in the first, Blach said. The situation kind of dictated pitch around a little bit there and try to get to the lefty, there were two outs, a couple guys on, so we did that a little bit, and the pitch count just got away from me there.TRAINERS ROOMGiants: SS Brandon Crawford returned to the starting lineup for the first time since dislocating the pinky on his glove hand on Tuesday night. ...
