WACO, Texas -- The Southern Jaguars will roll into Baylors Ferrell Center on Wednesday, hoping to interrupt the No. 4 Bears perfect beginning to this basketball season.Baylor knows Southern, the SWAC tournament champion last season, will be aiming for a big upset and theres at least a hint of a reason to believe the Jaguars can do it.Baylor (8-0) surged through its first eight games with wins over four ranked opponents, including two in the top 10. But the Bears havent played a game in 11 days during the schools final exams.Baylor coach Scott Drew said he could sense that the end of the academic semester was mentally draining on his team. Now the Bears have to try to regain their rhythm on the court against a program that has proven to be pesky.Last time they came here it was a one-possession game with under 15 seconds to go, Drew said. (Southern) was a team that was in the NCAA Tournament last year, traditionally top three in their league.Indeed, if Baylor had not made 11-of-12 free throws down the stretch in its last game against Southern, the Jaguars might have left Waco with a win. Southern held Baylor without a field goal for the final 6:09 in that game in December of 2014.Jaguars guard Trelun Banks played a key role two years ago as he scored 13 points and dished out seven assists versus Baylor. Thats become the standard for Banks, who is averaging 12.7 points and 5.8 assists through the first nine games of this season. If the Baylor-versus-Southern matchup appears to be a showcase and easy win for the soaring Bears, the Baylor players know better. Bears senior forward Ishmail Wainright was a sophomore playing significant minutes two years ago when a Southern team with a 3-9 record fought then-No. 22 Baylor to the very end.Tomorrow is going to be a test, Wainright said. Theyre a great team. My sophomore season, we were down to Southern by one right before halftime. The Jaguars (4-5) have had a roller-coaster nonconference ride so far in this campaign. Southern lost its first three games of the season, but since it has won four of six. While Baylor has been away from the court for final exams, the Jaguars have played three games, most recently an 86-50 victory over Ecclesia. But this will be Southerns first game against a ranked opponent this season. The Jaguars will be trying to knock off a Baylor team that has perhaps the best resume of any team in the nation through the first month of action. This is the best Ive felt about a Baylor team just on the court having fun, Wainright said. We fight every day, but its a good fight. We compete. Whenever a team is competing in practice, thats going to carry over to the game.Southern is led in scoring by senior forward Shawn Prudhomme, who averages 18.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. Prudhomme will have to battle for boards with Baylors towering forwards Johnathan Motley and Jo Lual-Acuil.Drew figures Prudhomme and the Jaguars will be up for the challenge, so Baylor will have to be focused. Why were off to an 8-0 start is weve approached every game and been ready to play and ready to go, Drew said. Hopefully that continues. Air Max Tn Plus Sale .ca! Hi Kerry, Heres an interesting one. I know its common knowledge that all players are responsible for their sticks. Where there is smoke, there is or perhaps has been a little fire. Or, in other words, the two teams would appear to have at least spoken. Wholesale Air Max 97 China . Andrew Luck lost his favourite target and the Indianapolis locker room lost one of its most revered leaders when Reggie Wayne was diagnosed Monday with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee that will cost him the rest of the season.Like everyone else, he was shocked. The decision of Jordan Younger to retire blind-sided the entire Toronto Argonaut organization, but nobody would feel the impact of that move more than Matt Black. The Toronto native, entering his fifth season in double blue, is now atop the depth chart at Youngers old position at starting safety. Hes established himself as one of the best special teams players in the CFL, but has never started a game. If he gets the nod, hes ready. "I prepare every year like Im going to be the starter, I work my butt off", Black told TSN.ca. "I was excited when I heard the news for myself, sad for the team because were losing great leader, a great veteran, a great friend, a knowledgeable guy that I loved learning from every year, but its a part of the business." Head coach Scott Milanovich is entering his second season with the Argos and has seen what Blacks abilities are, on and off the field. He may be the 59" safetys biggest fan. "I dont know what Matts biggest attribute is; hes got a lot of great things going for him. Hes athletic, hes tough, hes very intelligent, hes instinctive. The good thing about Matt being back there is the way we rotate (personnel) he played a lot last year. Hes been a leader on this team for a while; I think Matt is going to be a natural fit there". While it cant be underestimated how important it is to have the backing of the head coach, Black is more concerned about how he will be accepted as a starter by his teammates. "Its more so winning the trust and respect of the guys around me because they trusted and relied on J.Y. When the bullets were flying he was the guy that organized people and barked orders and got guys lined up where they needed to be and I have to fill the void that he left".dddddddddddd Black is right, Youngers departure has left a void but there doesnt seem to be anyone involved with the organization that doesnt think hes the right man for the job. Notes: Mondays practice was once again held at Holy Trinity Secondary School in Oakville ... During drills there were several different combinations of defensive backs as Pat Watkins and Pacino Horne were still out of action ... Black took first reps at safety with Bryan Payton seeing a lot of reps there as well ... The starting defensive line was Kevin Huntley and Khalif Mitchell at tackles with David Lee and Jeremy Geathers lined up at ends. The linebackers were the starters from a year ago, Robert McCune in the middle, flanked by Marcus Ball and Brandon Isaac ... Isaac is consistently the most vocal player at practice ... Left tackle Tony Washington didnt practice Monday, nor did centre Jeff Keeping. The first unit offensive line consisted of SirVincent Rogers and Chris Van Zeyl at tackles, Joel Reinders and Joe Eppele at guards. Wayne Smith moved over to center from guard ... If he continues to impress like he has going back to the first day of rookie camp, Quincy Hurst will be almost impossible to keep off the roster. Hes been a standout every session ... Newly acquired receiver Romby Bryant also looked very good on Day Two ... A familiar face graced the sidelines for the second session of the morning. Donnavan Carter was the Argos first-round draft pick in the 2000 draft. He played eight seasons in the league before entering the coaching ranks. Hes about to enter his first season as the Defensive Coordinator for the OUAs Windsor Lancers after leaving a similar position with the University of Toronto Blues. ' ' '
